Located across from Alvaro Siza's Bouça Social Housing in Porto, Portugal.
The proposed project situates itself within its context by building bars of massing parallel to the site boundaries to make street edges. The building explores different levels of outdoor space, from a public courtyard to individual balconies. With a train track on the north side, the project proposes lifting the units above this boundary to view what is beyond and take part in that landscape. The facade reflects the program of the room, with the living rooms having a full wall of windows, and some double height ceilings, while bedrooms are not as open. The complex seeks to have a conversation with Siza’s Bouça Social Housing by using similar proportions, but a different rhythm.
